GILL WESTCOTT

Green Party Candidate for Canonsleigh

The Green Party have announced that Gill Westcott, a teacher and researcher, as their candidate for Canonsleigh.

Gill has lived in rural Mid-Devon for 15 years.  She has taught in schools and adult education, grown and sold vegetables, been a Parish Councillor and helped start a Community Land Trust to provide low cost housing for local people.

“Our communities need to be strongly represented in planning and other decisions” Gill says, “to get the best for residents and the environment from any development.  We also need a resilient, sustainable economy that will make a safer future for young people”.

Gill wants to see more affordable and social housing for locals, timely road repairs, better public transport and support for our local businesses and independent retailers in what have become very challenging times.  She supports proposals to improve how Mid Devon District Council functions, in a more stable, accountable and transparent way and involving a wider range of councillors.  She would like to see more community participation in relevant discussions and plans for the future.
